On the 24th Jan 2020 the Minister of State for Universities, Science, Research and Innovation (Chris Skidmore MP) visited Northumbria University as part of a tour of North East universities. He met with the Northumbria University theme leads for the Hub for Biotechnology in the Built Environment, a joint initiative with Newcastle University and funded by Research England as part of their Expanding Excellence in England scheme. During the visit, Prof Black, a co-director of the hub, described the three hub research themes to the Minister and discussed the impact of the hub’s research with respect to the global challenges we currently face. Commenting on his visit, the Minister said: “I was hugely impressed by the enthusiasm of the staff and students I met at Northumbria University”.
