HBBE member Jane Scott presented at the DigitalFUTURES Talk: Soft Materials on the 17th of April 2021.

Soft Materials are flexible, floppy, and transformable. They are in contrast to the typical architect’s fascination with overly structured rigid tectonics. This panel explores the architectural ideas of working with materials that bend, flex, and conform. Can our built environment be made from such spaces of softness? What are the ways that these types of constructs engage with our bodies? This panel brings leading researchers to discuss working with knitting, textiles, and bending active materials.
