May 5, 2020We are pleased to announce a new PhD studentship in the Hub for Biotechnology in the Built Environment working on the Living Textile Interface project. We are looking for a talented design researcher to join the team and take a leading role in the new field of biodesign by exploring the design potential of living materials using textile techniques.
Working within an interdisciplinary team, this three year studentship will be instrumental in repositioning textiles as a key fabrication strategy for biomaterials in the built environment. This is a unique opportunity to define new textile materials and develop functioning prototypes that offer sustainable solutions for architecture.
We are looking for a highly motivated and adaptable PhD candidate with a background in design, textiles, architecture or subjects related to biodesign. An applied knowledge of textile design and technologies, 3D modelling, prototyping, and design research methodologies would be ideal. Applicants should come with a passion for research and creative use of materials and technologies for the built environment, and the ability to work as part of a diverse research team. The appointee will join one of the UKs leading Synthetic Biology teams and enjoy access to state of the art fabrication workshops and a new suite of microbiology labs. The studentship will be supervised across design and microbiology.
