Natalia Pynirtzi
Research Assistant & PhD Candidate Respire Project
Natalia Pynirtzi is a Research Assistant, as well as, a PhD candidate at Newcastle University working for the Respire project at the HBBE. She is a material scientist with expertise on developing and testing various types of bio composites with a specific interest on cellulosic nanomaterials. Her work within the Respire project is focused on developing breathable, environmentally friendly, water-responsive building skins, which will be activated by specific environmental conditions and will provide natural ventilation and heat recovery whilst eliminating energy use, maintenance cost and gas emissions.
Before joining Newcastle University, Natalia worked as a KTP Associate for an R&D project within the engineering industry, where she gained valuable experience on managing projects and mechanical testing labs. Originally from Greece, she obtained a BSc in Physics from University of Crete and following her undergraduate studies she completed her MSc in Materials Science and Engineering at Queen’s University of Belfast.
Throughout her career, Natalia has developed a strong background on laboratory research development and testing of fibrous nanocomposites while focusing on expanding and sharing knowledge on renewable, biodegradable and recyclable biomaterials for structural and mechanical applications.
