Fibre Fusion: Circular Manufacturing of Water Repelling Bacterial Cellulose Through a Biological Approach
The aim of the project is to develop a new, biologically based, efficient fabrication process for bio- based textiles.
Our focus is on hydrophobicity for bacterial cellulose (BC) based textiles using recombinant hydrophobic proteins. We will develop a proof of principle which addresses the whole life cycle of BC based textiles from the integration of biological molecules into the production of BC, through the properties of the materials and their robustness in life through to their end-of-life biodegradability.
This Project is funded by BBSRC. It invovles two companies, Modern Synthesis and Prozomix.
