Aileen Hoenerloh
PhD Candidate
Aileen Hönerloh is a current Ph.D. candidate at Newcastle University with an interest in digital fabrication. Before starting the PhD in October 2019 she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture in Germany and a Master’s Degree in Computational Methods in Architecture from Cardiff University. In her Master's dissertation, she explored interactive manipulations on 3D clay printing using a remote-controlled actuator. Additionally to being trained in 3D printing, she has experience in 3D modelling and visual programming in CAD.
As part of the Hub, Aileen researches the concept of upscaling of bio-materials and plans to develop fabrication techniques to integrate these materials into buildings. For the first stage of her research, she focuses on the versatile use of bacterial cellulose.
