Newcastle University Fine Art Degree Show 2026 23rd May – 5th June 10am-5pm.

Highlighting a lack of communal spaces in the North of England, this event is open to all interested in bio-technology, mycelium and its cultural potential for the future. The Long Table discussion, taking place around the evolving mycelium table itself, aims to bring together fungi experts and the public for a cross disciplinary discussion exploring  the overlap between fungi focused practices, but most importantly, the mycelium table will be centre of attention and an active participant in starting the conversation.

“This piece of ever evolving artwork has not only knitted itself together, but it has also connected fungi enthusiast’s, artists, bio-designers, architects and even medics into a network of hopefuls who can see the potential of this amazing naturally occurring substance.  This is just the start and we hope this collaboration will continue even after the structure is fully grown.” Emily Ford

The table, and other mycelium pieces on display, were biofabricated with the support of the Living Textiles Research Group in the Hub for Biotechnology in the Built Environment with the help of students from Architecture, Biotechnology and Fine Art. Ford will exhibit the growing table sculpture, created over the past year using knit, mycelium and time  and is inviting members of the public to come and join the discussion at the opening event as part of the Newcastle University Fine Art Degree Show 2026.
